Joe Gardiner

Co-founder, Covers & Co.

BIO

I started farming in 2007, and ran a very conventional mixed grain and cattle operation until 2010, when I started incorporating soil health practices on our farm.  In 2017 we started experimenting with full season cover crops for both grazing and winter forage production for our cattle herd.  Along with my future co-founder (and current business partner) Travis Avery, we started to test production, quality, soil and cost reduction opportunities of the crop.  In March 2020 we founded Covers & Co.

Today we have 10 employees & work with thousands of producers across western canada who want to implement the principles of mother nature in their operation.

My wife and I, along with my brother and his partner, still run our family farm.  We manage 400 commercial angus cows and 800 acres of cropland.  Our farm focus is to use livestock and plant diversity to improve sunlight capture, improve our soil and reduce operating cost.
